At least that is not what it means to me. Just clicking the 'X' does not mean they get full and complete access. They rightly assume they have to buy the product. Well, I find that is a "problem" to the casual user. The other option is to put your report on to but this does mean the viewer has to have internet connection, preferably broadband but not essential.

exe file directly but I have not tried to do this recently. As Dan has said, this is not the case you can register without buying. The only 'problem' is that when you start to download it looks as though you have to buy. Anyone can download the latest version of the GenpoPro.exe file and use it as a viewer on their PC, possibly using data supplied on Cd. Some time ago there was discussion about providing a version of GenoPro which was just a viewer. They just want to be able to click on the Family Tree icon and have it launch the GenoPro viewer (or open GenoPro 1.70 and have it open the Family tree) I hope that will work, while as many of my relatives have computers, most do not have the ability or inclination to learn GenoPro. Personally, I will provide a link to the GenoPro 1.70 software and invite my relatives to download from that link and then allow it to open our family Tree. This assumes GenoPro 1.70 will allow a tree of greater than 25 members can be saved/viewed. Tell people it is not meant to create a tree, but to use it to view their family tree that someone else has created in GenoPro. I guess what I am asking GenoPro managment to consider is to rename GenoPro 1.70 to something like GenoPro Reader or GenoPro Viewer. That is, anytime they open the Tree, the date in the system clock updates the ages of the family members in the Tree. I have been banging my relatives ears telling them to download GenoPro so the Tree becomes a "living" entity.

Those people need a "viewer" Something like what Adobe distribues for free to see. However, my relatives, many of whom like to see the Tree, but do not wish to change the Tree. I do not mind buying the GenoPro program. The text above comes from the second response in the thread that answered my question. The new licensing model does not prevent you from using existing software, but future versions will be shareware (try before you buy). You are welcome to use GenoPro 1.70 forever without having to ever spend a penny. This version is 100% freeware without any registration, nag screen or advertising. You can still download the freeware GenoPro version 1.70 at /free/. However - If you want your relatives to be able to modify your file, they must have GenoPro themselves.

GenoPro has an option to export your family tree into a MetaFile (a picture file) which you can send to your relatives.Īnother way is to use the report generator and publish your family tree in GenoPro's server. You can see several discussions in that matter if you search for "registration".Īs for your second question - your relatives don't have to buy GenoPro in order to view the family tree.

I'm not sure if GenoPro's policy had been changed and if it is GenoProSupport will update us. Please let me know if I did something wrong, or has the GenoPro business model changed and all my relatives must buy GenoPro to view the family tree. I'm sure I did something wrong, because now it says we have to pay for GenoPro. Recently I tried to download GenoPro for one of my cousins.

At one point, the download was free and use was free, albeit with a request for the user to purchase. When I invite family members to view the tree, they download the program.
